Tips and Tricks: Caches along a Route
Premium members at geocaching.com can create a "Pocket Query" that includes geocaches along a route that you specify. For example, before you head out on a road trip, you could create a GPX file of your expected travels, and then load into GeoNiche the caches within a certain distance of where you will be traveling.
If it is a trip you take often, you could use GeoNiche to record the route on one of your outings. If don't go there often, you could instead use GoogNiche with Google Maps or gmap-pedometer.com to get your route into GeoNiche.
Next, you need to export your route in GPX format. However, because the GPX format is somewhat ambiguous, this isn't as straight forward as it might seem. You need GeoNiche to export a route that is compatible with geocaching.com. Use the following procedure:
- Switch to the Routes Mode
- Locate the route you wish to export and tap on its name
- Select the
Route/Sharemenu item - Either select
Export GPXorSendandAs GPX - Select
Single route - Important: Make sure that
Related Target(s)is not checked - Push
OKto export your route
You are now ready to upload your route to geocaching.com with the form at http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx
