Here is a list of things I intend to add to upcoming versions of GeoNiche. They are in no particular order. I am open to suggestions.

  • Display additional information on wide (480x320) and tall (320x480) screens
  • Remove parenthesis from keyword drop-down so that search by first letter works
  • A separate area for notes that aren't updated by merging
  • Ability to use notes exclusively from the SD card
  • EasyNiche option to only fetch X number of caches
  • Sort by color
  • Checked/unchecked field in import data
  • Hard buttons (except up/down) work in preferences mode
  • Automatically start another route when maximum length of route is reached
  • Navigation-mode like arrow to the GPS display screens
  • Background route recording ability (when not in GeoNiche)
  • Power saving screen-off feature
  • UTM coordinates and mil directions
  • "Activate Closest" Navigation Mode button function
  • "New Target Name" option when using Target Offset
  • Separate route recording interval
  • Optional rotation damping of the Navigation Mode screen
  • (Maximum Altitude) and (Minimum Altitude) keywords
  • (Average Speed) keyword
  • Add third GPS Display
  • Include computed speed in exported GPX files
  • Remove step number from target names when using turn by turn
  • Make ETR less ambiguous by using hh:mm: for more than 1 hour, :mm:ss for less than 1 hour, and :ss for less than 1 minute
  • Faster than one-second updates?
  • Merge databases directly from SD card
  • Increase the number of coordinates that are averaged to 100
  • Add option to average specific targets
  • Hi-res font (selectable default for each layout)
  • Automatically start recording a new route when current route cannot be made longer
  • Add KML importation into EasyNiche
  • Option to force heading calculation
  • Init strings that turn off "static navigation"

Screen Rotation

What do you think about being able to rotate the screen 90 degrees? Since most of the Palm devices are square displays (160 x 160 or 320 x 320) I was amazed that I was not able to find any utilities or hacks that would rotate the orientation of the screen. Sometimes I would rather set my Centro on it's side, or clip it to the mirror ("what's behind us is not important"). I'd like to see this added to the low priority ToDo list.

That would be great; I think background recording is very hard to implement, but screen-off while recording would be very usefull.

I would also add that I like:

I have a Palm TX and am sometimes frustrated when programs do not make use of the full screen.
